The 100th Sensory Room Installation by Experia

Installing Our 100th Sensory Room!

Experia - the sensory equipment specialists has installed its 100th sensory room on behalf of youth cricket and disability sports charity the Lord’s Taverners.

The installation at Oaktree School in Enfield is the latest in a six-year partnership that has seen more than £1m invested in sensory rooms across the country, from Angus in Scotland to Par in Cornwall, benefiting thousands of young people with a range of disabilities.

Oaktree School based in Enfield, London is a maintained day special school for students with a wide range of complex needs. It is co-educational and caters for up to 95 children and young adults aged from 7-19.

The school applied for a grant from the Lord’s Taverners, which provides funding for young people to develop their skills, especially through sport. With a £25,000 grant, staff were able to invest in an advanced sensory room developed to meet the specific needs of their pupils.

Installed in three days, the completed room includes a number of innovative educational and sensory features including soft play equipment, an interactive floor system for visual learning and the sophisticated MiLE - multisensory learning environment that provide children with interactive learning scenarios. The sensory room will help pupils with a range of sensory impairments to develop hand-eye coordination, motor skills, colour recognition, communication and sensory skills.

James Ford, a teacher at Oaktree School, said:

“I always want the best for my school and I worked closely with the Experia team to give them the idea of what we wanted as a school. They managed to give us a multipurpose room with high quality products that allow our students to be in control and make choices that will make a real difference to their wellbeing and development.”

As part of the Lord’s Taverners charity partnership, Experia also sponsored the Community Sports Club of the Year category at the charity’s Sporting Chance Awards held at London’s Guildhall in October. The event recognises and celebrates the achievements of young disabled or disadvantaged people who have overcome difficulties and excelled through sport.

Gareth Jones, Founder of Experia, said:

“I am proud to be announcing the installation of our 100th sensory room for the Lord’s Taverners which I know will bring a lot of happiness to the children and young adults that attend the school. The Lord’s Taverners is a fantastic charity that does incredible work across the country and we are happy to be able to support them, whether it’s by installing sensory rooms, exhibiting at events such as the BT Beyond Boundaries summit in London or sponsoring the Sporting Chance Awards.”
