COTM: Anna Kennedy Online

For its dedication to promoting the inclusion and equality of children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder throughout society, Anna Kennedy Online is the Experia August CHARITY OF THE MONTH.

About the charity

The UK Autism charity was founded by Anna Kennedy OBE. Anna has two children - one has autism, the other Asperger's Syndrome. For years she has campaigned to help them and other youngsters with those conditions and that has even included opening her own school. Anna, who is from Hillingdon, has received an OBE from the Queen and has been awarded other various honours for her work, including the ‘Best Humanitarian Award 2016’.

Anna founded AKO to support and share information to the many families and adults affected by Autism. Anna said: “Ever since I started my own journey with my own boys Patrick and Angelo and wanting to help and support those who like them have a diagnosis of an Autism spectrum condition I am frustrated and disappointed with the lack of facilities and support across the UK.

This is why it is so important that all of us who are involved with and affected by autism should continue to fight hard and make our voices heard in improving educational and other resources for individuals, their families and carers.”

Making a difference

The charity promotes its mission of disability equality by developing and delivering training, providing legal advice, helpline, social media, roadshows and talks around the UK by raising awareness of the challenges faced by people with disabilities and also by its advocacy efforts with and on behalf of people with disabilities.

Autism Hero Awards – 11th November 2017

The UK Autism Hero Awards was created by AKO as an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the excellence taking place in the world of Autism. This is a unique opportunity to celebrate and showcase accomplishments as well as enhancing Autism awareness and acceptance.

Nominations for the different categories are open from now until Friday 1st September 2017 and the finalists will be announced in September 2017. The award ceremony will take place at the Radisson Blu Portman Hotel, 22 Portman Square, London W1H 7BG on Saturday 11th November 2017. Why not nominate your hero?

AKO Autism Expo – March 2018

Now in its third year, the charity’s AKO Autism Expo returns in March 2018. The event aims to support and inform as many families and carers as possible. It’s an opportunity to meet like-minded people, share stories, talk to an expert in one of the clinics and to find out more about Autism and its related conditions.

Check out the expo’s website that will have updates soon: https://www.akoautismexpo.co.uk/
