Greenside School Case Study

Greenside School, based in Stevenage, is a day school providing education for pupils aged 2 to 19. The pupils who attend have a wide range of complex, severe and profound learning difficulties, many of which can impact on their learning.

Greenside School applied for a grant from Experia’s charity partner Lord’s Taverners who in turn received support from BT. These grants provide funding for young people to develop their skills with organised sports days and fundraising activities. With a generous £5,000 grant the staff at Greenside School were able to boost their already impressive fundraising efforts to invest in a state-of-the-art sensory room, developed by our very own in-house team, to meet the complex and diverse needs of pupils at the school.

The Sensory Room is based on Experia’s IRiS Technology and features the following innovative and interactive equipment:

IRiS Sensory Area: to give a calm, controlled environment which enables children to have control of colours and themes

IRiS Bubble Tube: to provide the room with mesmerising and calming effects

Fibre Optics: to give visual effects whilst being tactile and safe to touch

LED Projector: to project a range of images with a customisable selection of effects wheels

Infinity Tunnels: to give visual effects ideal for social interaction and colour recognition

Vibro Plinths and Sound System: to provide audio and vibration to assist with special effects and audio development

Peter Saunders, Managing Director at Experia, said:

“It excites me that Experia has been part of another brilliant sensory project, with support from Lord’s Taverners and BT’s generous funding. It gives me great pleasure knowing that our sensory specialists and designers have had such a positive influence in helping the children develop their skills in an interactive and engaging environment.”
