What is Autism Spectrum Disorder?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a condition that affects a person's communication, interaction, behaviour, and interests. Because it is a spectrum of disorders, the level at which sufferers are affected varies from person to person. Some individuals are only slightly impaired by their symptoms, whilst others have more severe disabilities. Children on the autism spectrum often lack the ability to filter out irrelevant sensory information, which can cause them to be withdrawn and respond in unusual ways. Not being able to process sensory information properly is problematic as it can lead to everyday life becoming a big and unnerving struggle.
