Hand to Eye Coordination
Hand Eye Coordination
The ability to do things that involve your hands and eyes working together. Hand-eye coordination uses the eyes to direct attention and the hands to execute a task For example catching a ball or drawing pictures.
Hand-Eye Coordination is the control of hand movement with eye movement. Poor hand-eye coordination can have a wide variety of causes, but the main two conditions responsible for inadequate hand-eye coordination are vision problems and movement disorders. Though traditionally thought of being used with sports, hand-eye coordination can be challenged and encouraged through the use of interactive switches and interactive multi-sensory environments.
In addition, we can add eye-foot coordination through the use of balance beams. Interactive panels, bubble tubes and floors can be used to encourage hand and or foot placement in response to sights and sounds. These tools are much needed for those living with a physical challenge. Once exposed to our specially designed rooms, an individual with hand-eye coordination challenges will naturally gain confidence in such a necessary skill. This newly acquired confidence can transfer to many activities outside of our rooms. Setting up a sensory room in your school, home or facility may improve the quality of life and provide the much needed stimulation.
